About me

A bit about me:

I knew I needed help when my life changed following the death of my Mum from cancer. I appeared to be coping well…working, bringing up my daughters, seeing friends and seeming to cope; but inside I was struggling.

I understand how tough life can be sometimes and how scary asking for help can be. I found my own counselling challenging, sometimes fun, often enlightening and ultimately valuable, so can understand some of your feelings too….it can be daunting to meet with a complete stranger and talk about ‘your stuff’.

I am a very experienced counsellor working in what’s called an “integrated” way which means I am trained in more than one type of counselling. My model of counselling includes CBT, Psychodynamic theory, Gestalt and Humanistic/Person Centred theories. This means we will look at how your past can influence your present life, how you relate to other people, patterns in your life that keep recurring, what your values are and how you can create a happier life that is fulfilling and right for YOU.

I feel the heart of successful therapy is the relationship between counsellor and client which helps the client feel safe, supported and respected in a confidential, non judgemental environment. Working together within this safe environment we can fully explore the issues and concerns that you bring, helping you to lead a happier life.

I work with a wide range of issues such as parenting problems, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, sexual and physical abuse, loss, bereavement, low mood, addictions, workplace stress, relationship issues, depression, low self esteem and confidence issues, change of life events (such as job change, relocation, divorce, injury and pain).

I work with adults (specialising in parenting issues), couples, teenagers and children (using play).

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and can be found on their accredited register and work within their ethical framework.

I am also a qualified Supervisor which means I oversee other counsellors work as well as supporting other professionals in their clinical work such as nurses and teachers.

I also teach counselling which I love, and deliver self-esteem and confidence workshops as well as mentor student counsellors during their training.

I regularly attend professional development events, training and courses to ensure my skills and knowledge remain up-to-date as well as receiving regular supervision.
